$60K raised for barnardos by local team in 24 hour challenge

Employees at an Arndell Park Facility in Western Sydney took on the ultimate challenge to raise funds for Barnardos, the leading child protection charity in Australia.

On 21 and 22 November, 38 employees from environmental solutions company Veolia moved non-stop for 24 hours to raise funds for Barnardos.
With $20,000 already pledged at the start of the challenge, an overwhelming surge of community support led to a final total in excess of $60,000.

Manisha Amin, Director of Marketing and Fundraising at Barnardos, thanked the team for their support:

“Thank you so much to the team at Veolia - those that completed the challenge and also those that supported them. Because of your efforts we will be able to support families and children this Christmas period. Many of these children have experienced terrible trauma and it means so much to them that someone - the team at Veolia cares.  It was a real privilege to see the teams make it to the finish line on sun. We think you are all amazing.”

The Veolia team was also joined by several NRL players including, Aaron Woods, Ava Seumanufagai, and Chris Lawrence from the Wests Tigers, and Tim Moltzen from the Manly Sea Eages.
Veolia has been supporting Barnardos in NSW for four years. The challenge is the latest activity which joins wellbeing with support for the organisation.
Teams of eight took part, with two participants working for two hours at a time. Each participant completed six hours of exercise.

  • Rowed: 368km
  • Cycled: 915km
  • Body Weight exercises: 18,000 squats, 18,000 push-ups and 18,000 T-Rex
  • Punches: 180,000
  • Running: 252km

Scott Bond, Veolia’s NSW General Manager Commercial Services, took part in the challenge:

“It started as an opportunity to improve our team fitness and has grown into this fantastic challenge. I think we were all taken by surprise at how enthusiastic people were to get involved and incredibly proud of the funds raised. Veolia matched every dollar raised by our team – our current total stands at $62,322. An especially big thank you to all those who donated online to support the team. I’d also like to thank our suppliers, One Wellbeing, Wastech, TTH, Hydraulic Spares and Repairs, Superior Pak, Waste Trans, Southern Cross Auto Electrical Services, Parkes Electrical, Pakmor and Isuzu, who have been very generous in supporting the event and Barnardos.”
