Veolia Environnement and Roland Jourdain

Sailing is more than just a fantastic activity...

Veolia Environnement has sponsored Roland Jourdain since 2004. Beyond the athletic prowess involved, sailing embodies human and environmental values that are a good fit with our businesses.

On November 9, 2008, Roland Jourdain will set off on the Vendée Globe, a single-handed, non-stop around-the-world race, aboard the Veolia Environnement monohull yacht. Totally redesigned and overhauled, the IMOCA-class, 60-foot (18.28 meters-long) sailboat is now totally ready to tackle the 100-day race.

An interactive site to vicariously experience the thrill of the races and to share your thoughts about the sea and its challenges

To bring our partnership alive for the general public and our employees, Veolia Environnement has created a community site dedicated to Roland, racing and the ocean world, at www.canyousea.com.

Visitors can follow the race day to day through radio messages, news-in-brief and maps. They can also react by posting their comments, especially about articles and videos covering not just the race but also preparations, uploaded regularly by Roland Jourdain and his team.

The Web site is an ideal forum for sailing buffs and everyone who loves the sea. It aims to raise general awareness about the beauty of the sea and what we can do to protect it. Many articles provide scientific, economic, geographic or historic insights on such questions as seawater desalination to produce freshwater, the development of green plastics, circumnavigation, pirates, maps of the world and more.
