The world's biggest rooftop photovoltaic solar plant
The project began in 2007. Energy prices were already exploding and everyone felt responsible for climate change. A different vision of the future was emerging, leaving fossil fuels far behind. It was in this climate of change that Veolia Environnement, General Motors Europe, the developer Clairvoyant Energy and the Autonomous Government of Aragon signed a joint agreement to build a photovoltaic solar plant on the rooftop of the General Motor plant.

Polymerase Chain Reaction
Back in 1996, researchers at Veolia Environnement were already working on the idea, with the purpose of drawing a highly accurate picture of micro-organisms in and around the organization's facilities. The project aimed at securing a safer environment for both personnel and the public living in the vicinity, as well as ensuring a state of readiness in the event of a health hazard.

Corrosion Prevention
Although mankind has mastered the technique of obtaining steel from iron ore, in time corrosion returns the metal to its iron oxide state. Specific factors can accelerate this natural process, like the high temperature corrosion that occurs in municipal solid-waste combustion facilities. R&D has been addressing the issue since 2002, with the aim of optimizing efficiency and generating more energy.

Actiflo™ Turbo
The water we drink has been through a series of physical and chemical treatments, including clarification, a stage that involves decanting suspended matter. On how to speed up this relatively slow process, Veolia R&D put forward Actiflo™ Turbo, a system that provides fourfold time savings. Ten fully operational facilities are planned during 2008-09, helping meet increasing water demand from communities.

Aristot
Tap water can sometimes taste or smell funny. This is due to tiny amounts of odorous compounds that are in fact harmless to health. Due to their volatility however, they can be quite difficult to trace, which impedes effective water treatment. Over a period of a couple of years, ARISTOT was developed by Veolia R&D in order to detect such compounds and analyze more positively the drinking water that fills consumers' glasses.
