Water taste and smell
Water can be savored like fine wine, as the opening of water bars shows. Yet saying that tap water has a taste or smell means that it tastes or smells bad: no one wants to drink it and people even fear for their health. Why?

Clean buses
Veolia Environnement has modified many buses in our fleet to keep their pollutant emissions below the levels mandated by current European standards. Over the 2001-2005 period, Veolia Transport cut its emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons and particles by 15 to 20%.

Modeling
Modeling has applications in many fields. This magazine focuses solely on the modeling of fluid flows in civil engineering structures. Fluid flow modeling is especially applicable to our water, energy and waste management fields.Over the 2001-2005 period, Veolia Transport cut its emissions of carbon monoxide (CO), unburned hydrocarbons and particles by 15 to 20%.

Water quality management
Water must be managed both qualitatively, by fighting pollution, and quantitatively, by finding alternative solutions such as desalination and wastewater recycling and reuse, in order to conserve resources. This magazine focuses primarily on the qualitative aspects. Veolia Environnement Research & Innovation also works on quantitative issues.

Seawater desalination
Although 72% of the earth's surface is covered with water, 97% of it is saltwater. The remaining 3% is very unequally distributed: just 10 countries possess 60% of the freshwater reserves, while 29 others, in Africa and the Middle East, face chronic shortages. Desalination expands freshwater supplies, offers a solution to droughts and helps communities cope with shortages and crisis situations.

Fuel cells
The operating principle of fuels cell is simple. Unfortunately, implementation is much less so...

Bioreactors
Bioreactors work by speeding up the breakdown of waste in landfills through optimal moisture conditions, maintained by recirculating leachates in the compartment. They offer two advantages: more biogas is produced faster and waste stabilizes more rapidly; maintenance is reduced for post-operational sites, which can be rehabilitated faster (for agricultural or other purposes).
