Bioreactors

Bioreactors work by speeding up the breakdown of waste in landfills through optimal moisture conditions, maintained by recirculating leachates in the compartment.
They offer two advantages: more biogas is produced faster and waste stabilizes more rapidly; maintenance is reduced for post-operational sites, which can be rehabilitated faster (for agricultural or other purposes).

Research objectives

Veolia Environnement, world leader in environmental services, is developing new waste treatment and recovery technologies.
Our research on bioreactors deals with:

  • Developing a new waste-to-energy process.
  • Managing the natural breakdown of waste that produces renewable energy.
