More and more industries are attracted by Veolia Water's technological expertise
With eight significant contracts signed in 2012 and a particularly positive performance by the industrial segment, Veolia Water's technology subsidiary has further entrenched its position as the benchmark on the world's water treatment market.
Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies is attracting more and more industries seeking to reconcile productivity and energy savings with a smaller environmental footprint. Since the start of 2012, Veolia Water's technology subsidiary has signed a series of eight significant contracts with industry clients.
Major contracts won in the first half year 2012
Contracts over 10 million euros won by Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies
These industries have access to Veolia Water's portfolio of 350 proprietary technological processes that are tailored to the new challenge they face of having to recycle their effluent and recover the material contained in their production waste - potash, phosphorus, etc. - for its reuse or as a revenue stream.
For example, in Spain, Veolia Water material recovery technology was chosen by Spanish fertilizer manufacturer Iberpotash under a major contract. Based on HPD's evaporation and crystallization processes, the system will recover the salts and potash in the production waste from which it will produce up to 750,000 metric tons/year of food processing and chemical salts, and 50,000 metric tons/year of white potash.
Entirely designed in a closed loop with construction slated for completion in 2014 by Veolia Water, the facility will continuously recirculate the condensate and effluent back into the production circuit eliminating all final liquid residue and reducing the environmental footprint.
Another example, in Canada, where one of the largest producers of bituminous sands in north Alberta has been using the HPD evaporation technology since 2010 to treat the feed water for its production process that yields 40,000 barrels/day (6,350 cubic meters/day). In 2012, this producer contracted Veolia Water for a similar sized project in the same region.
The system uses a Veolia Water proprietary process to treat the production water in situ while recovering 20,500 cubic meters/day of this treated water to feed the site's boilers.
With more than 800 facilities in over 30 countries using HPD evaporation and crystallization technology, Veolia Water has proven expertise that is sought after by a growing number of industrial clients.
Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies was recently awarded new contracts to design and build reclamation and recycling facilities to treat industrial effluents and by-products:
Examples of industrial sectors: refinery, petrochemicals, paper-making and fertilizer production, like the Spanish producer Iberpotash:
In the first half of 2012, Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies also won a major contract in Brazil to treat and recover industrial effluent at the Petrobras petrochemical complex in Rio de Janeiro (COMPERJ).
"Veolia Water's Technology business reported strong results for the first half of 2012. In all sectors, across a wide range of problems, new clients like Iberpotash in Spain, or long-standing ones such as Petrobras in Brazil, have underscored the trust they have in Veolia Water by choosing us for ambitious projects. These examples are all proof that our'customized' technological solutions and our industrial water treatment and recovery expertise provide a perfect response to the expectations of clients concerned about optimizing their production costs and managing their environmental footprint."
First-half 2012 sales were up by 7.2% to a total 1,086 billion euros, of this figure the industry sector accounted for 650 million euros.
