2015 PERFORMANCE

CSR performance
This document sets out the key data on Veolia’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance.

Over 6.5 million people connected to drinking water and more than 3 million to sanitation services in countries with poor access since 2000.

Through its contracts with local authorities, Veolia provides 100 million people with drinking water, almost 63 million people with wastewater services, 39 million people with waste collection services and nearly 6.4 million people with heating services worldwide. This commitment comes in the form of responses to calls for tenders in the territories and countries where access to services is a major human development issue, and formal requests from the authorities.

In developing and emerging countries, the Group has accompanied many cities through contracts including explicit targets or incentives for expanding the service and maintaining access to services. Since the Millennium Development Goals were established in 2000, the Group has helped to ensure 6.5 million people have access to drinking water and has connected more than 3 million people to sanitation services [1], notably through its social connection programs in Africa and Latin America. The Group relies on societal engineering, Acces, applicable to all its business lines and integrating the three areas in technical engineering, financial and institutional engineering, societal engineering and customer relations.

In developed countries, the company is also committed to maintaining access to services for the most disadvantaged people, as well as people in precarious situations or that are homeless. Veolia is involved in local solidarity efforts which, in addition to social pricing, combines three categories of aid: emergency solutions, assistance and prevention solutions.

Veolia in particular ensures it provides all its customers with proximity tools and tailored actions adapted to the specificities of the local areas and the needs of the population. Veolia has therefore made mediation a differentiating area in its strategy. The Group partners with local players from the business world and civil society which are as close as possible to the local population in order to identify weak signals, anticipate possible barriers to access to services, raise awareness, inform and support users in their efforts. Mediation mechanisms ensure Veolia’s operational performance and a close relationship with customers.

THE VEOLIA FOUNDATION

The Veolia Foundation helps develop access to essential services as part of its international solidarity activities (humanitarian emergencies and development assistance), which is one of its three priority areas, and builds partnerships with United Nations agencies (UNICEF, UNHCR), major international organizations (Red Cross, ACF, MDM, International Solidarity, Oxfam, etc.) and supports governments. It provides financial support and makes the skills of Group employees available (Veoliaforce).
