World Environment Day 2016

It's World Environment Day on June 5th, 2016! This year’s theme for WED – Go Wild for Life – encourages you to celebrate all those species under threat and take action of your own to help safeguard them for future generations.

In order to act together on World Environment Day, Veolia Middle East has developed this year a Tool Kit to raise awareness on from what is our natural environment in the Middle East and how we can contribute to our spread this biodiversity in our day to day lives as well as our jobs!

The idea is an Interactive activity with a group with different people at each station to learn about biodiversity in the Middle East. Find below the purpose for each station and a brief explanation.

STATION 1: Veolia & Biodiversity

This station is about understanding how Veolia corporately views biodiversity and how it supports protecting the ecosystem.


Protecting and restoring biodiversity is one of Veolia’s 9 sustainable development commitments, set in 2014. It falls under 3 main headings:
  • more effectively address biodiversity issues locally and develop innovative solutions inspired by nature
  • make as many people as possible aware of the issues, involve them and promote the actions implemented jointly with local stakeholders
  • deploy environmental development and management actions on our sites and for our customers 
 
 
 

STATION 2: Where is the Middle East wildlife?

This station is about building an awareness of what creatures live in the desert, sea and mountains in the region to give an idea of what we should be working to protect.

STATION 3: How do we create a safe eco-system for the regions' wildlife?

This station is understanding what Veolia porjects do in the region to help protect the environment and its wildlife.

How can you help? :
  • Don't litter!
  • Recycle and reuse as much as possible
  • Minimize use of pesticides and herbicides
  • Choose biogradable and biosafe products
 

STATION 4: Photo competition

This station is to show how our region has already been involved in raising awareness through photography.

 Veolia organized a photo competition for the World Environmen Day in order to showcase the beauty of environment and here are some of the photos taken by our employees in the region:

STATION 5: BioBounty: How many endangered species there are in the region?

This station is to give an idea of scale of the impact and the potential that we have in our working lives to impact the wildlife around  us.

Just to give you a few names of endangered species in the region:
  • Arabian Gazelle
  • Sand Cat
  • Mediterranean Monk Seal
