GrowSmarter

GrowSmarter

GrowSmarter is an EU initiative for smarter and more sustainable cities. Veolia participates as an industrial partner in the project, which initially involves Stockholm, Cologne and Barcelona.

GrowSmarter, a part of the EU program Horizon 2020, is one of the European Commission’s initiatives to stimulate the development of smart cities. The aim is to promote research and innovative solutions that make future cities more sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Growsmarter involves Stockholm, Cologne and Barcelona, where 12 smart solutions within energy, infrastructure and transport will be tested in urban areas.
GrowSmarter
The intent is to create a market for the application of these smart solutions in other cities, in order to support the growth of a more sustainable Europe.

Veolia participates as an industrial partner in this project, in the areas of Valla Torg and Slakthusområdet in Stockholm, as well as the housing cooperative Brf Årstakrönet.

Valla Torg consists of rental housing owned by Stockholmshem. The properties are in need of refurbishment, renovation and energy efficiency. The area includes about 300 apartments on 30 000 square meters.

Veolia contributes with 4 different services.
  1. Energy quality assurance- how to ensure focus on energy consumption through the entire construction process, using an energy coordinator
  2. Temperature measurement in key areas - how to ensure the right indoor climate in a building
  3. Adaptive control system - how to influence the existing control equipment by taking into account the building's characteristics, external factors such as solar radiation, and activities in the property
  4. Hubgrade © - Energy Saving Center - continuous monitoring and energy management
The area consists of various types of industrial properties. The selected properties are both from the beginning of the last Century and in need of refurbishment, both structurally and technically.

The properties in the housing cooperative Brf Årstakrönet are about 10 years old, and still relatively new, yet they benefit from energy efficiency from an economic and environmental point of view. The properties' are similar to the ones in the area of Hammarby Sjöstad, where Veolia is working actively with targeted energy management.
