CWA of NSW donation: Veolia pledges support for drought-affected rural communities

Veolia Australia and New Zealand has rallied behind struggling farming communities, providing a donation to the Country Women’s Association (CWA) of NSW’s Disaster Relief Fund.

Today, Danny Conlon, CEO and Managing Director of Veolia Australia and New Zealand presented CWA of NSW's CEO, Danica Leys, with a cheque for $45,742.

The money was raised as part of an organisation-wide employee fundraising drive which saw contributions made from across the region, including New Zealand.

Around $22,000 was raised through employee donations alone, with Veolia matching contributions.

Danny Conlon, Veolia Australia and New Zealand CEO and Managing Director said, “Veolia is pleased to present CWA of NSW with this grant. Their Disaster Relief Fund has received widespread praise because one hundred percent of funds go to farming families most critically affected - those who are unable to pay for essential items like school, grocery and medical bills.”

Many regions continue to experience some of the driest conditions in recent memory after record-low rainfall, with no end in sight. As a result, an increasing number of farmers and communities are facing immense social and financial pressure.

Danny added, “As an environmental solutions provider across water, waste and energy, and with operations in communities deeply affected by current drought conditions, we wanted to contribute in some way. It’s a cause our employees are deeply supportive of and many have seen first-hand the devastating consequences in their own communities.”

CWA of NSW CEO, Danica Leys, thanked Veolia for its support, stating, “We are so grateful for the support from Veolia towards our Disaster Relief Fund. Donations like these and others have enabled the CWA of NSW to distribute over $10 million in support to drought affected communities since July 2018. The support helps cover household bills that don’t stop in the drought. Aside from the monetary donation it is also genuinely heartening to see awareness of this issue within the Veolia team and a genuine willingness to want to help to make a difference.”
