Under the eight year contract, Veolia will operate and maintain the plants which supply potable water and wastewater treatment services to over half a million people across six local government areas in New South Wales. Veolia’s global and long-standing expertise in water operations will allow for the implementation of best-practice technologies, whilst also helping to ease cost pressures for local families and businesses.
Veolia has been present in Australia for over 20 years and operates more than 30 water treatment plants in Australia and New Zealand. The contract adds to Veolia’s existing presence in the Hunter region, with Veolia partnering with some of the region’s biggest companies including Tomago Aluminium, Eraring and Rio Tinto Coal.
Hunter Water is one of Australia's largest water utilities, it provides drinking water and wastewater services to 570,000 residents and customers in the Hunter region.
Commenting on the contract, Managing Director of Veolia Australia and New Zealand -Doug Dean said "Veolia is pleased to have been awarded the contract with Hunter Water Corporation to operate and maintain 25 treatment plants in the Hunter region. This contract will see Veolia deliver approximately 65 positions; further adding to an existing workforce of some 270 Veolia employees across the Hunter. Having had a long-standing presence in the region, Veolia is excited to deliver Hunter Water Corporation with best-practice water technologies, whilst also helping to ease cost pressures for local families and businesses.
