What are some integrated solutions we have offered to the agriculture sector?

Located in Tilmanstone, Kent, Bakkavor is the main supplier of fresh vegetables and salads to Marks & Spencer, Tesco, Waitrose, Sainsbury’s, Coop, Asda, Aldi and other big players of the fast-food industry.  Their goals were to reduce and safeguard a steady supply of water in a region repeatedly affected by water stress as well as the costs associated with water use and wastewater treatment.

By embarking on a ten-year contract with Veolia to design and operate a treatment plant and recycle wastewater using innovative technology that includes Dissolved Air Floatation (DAF), a membrane bioreactor, ultrafiltration and nanofiltration, Bakkovor saw:

  • A 70 per cent drop in water use by recycling wash water
  • Drinking water savings equivalent to the consumption of 5000 people
  • Treatment sludge used as organic fertiliser
  • Lower plant operating costs, improving operational and financial visibility.
