Cement Australia – Reducing risk through valued added facilities maintenance services

Veolia not only provides a number of facilities management services to Cement Australia for their operations in Gladstone, but is improving efficiencies through better work flow processes.

Facilities Maintenance Cement Australia

THE CHALLENGE

Cement Australia is the nation’s leading supplier of cement products and services. Its Gladstone facility has a production capacity of over 1.7million tonnes of cement per annum; and also processes limestone, clay silica, sand and iron additives to produce cement, essential to the Australian commercial market.

THE SOLUTION

Since 2011, Veolia has partnered with Cement Australia to assist in the overall refractory management of its Gladstone operations. A collaboration stemming from Cement Australia’s unique requirement to have an achievable solution to improve safety and eliminate manual handling risks during the installation of shotcrete.

Veolia provides the following services:
  • Carpentry
  • Steel fabrication
  • Rigging
  • Scaffolding
  • Painting
  • Demolition
  • Vacuum loading
  • Facilities maintenance

THE RESULTS

Working together, Veolia removed the risks related to mobile plant interaction around the mixer and pump, as well as reviewed the methods for loading bulk bags of refractory castable into pan mixers. This was achieved by introducing a free standing monorail system, specifically designed to load bags into pan mixers – inevitably reducing manual handling risks, forklift movement and ensuring Cement Australia’s workplace is a much safer environment.
