Operational Compliance

The Veolia Corporate Legal Counsel and our Safety, Health, Quality and Environment (SHEQ) teams are responsible for the identification, notification and monitoring of all legislative and other requirements, which relate to the activities of the contract.

What is involved in operational compliance?

It’s two-fold - internal and external.

Internal operational compliance - audits, reviews and continuous improvement

The responsibility for verifying the effective implementation of Veolia’s Business Management System (BMS) to the operation and management of the contract is a shared responsibility of the SHEQ team, Veolia’s senior management and the contract manager.

The SHEQ team will provide formal audits of the system and plans for each contract and will conduct an assessment of compliance to our BMS.

These audits review the requirements under BMS and the three standards, ISO 9001, AS/NZS 4801 and ISO 14001 as well as compliance to relevant legislation, regulations, codes of practice and licence conditions.

Audits will be conducted by internal review through site visits and inspections of the system and activities. These reviews can be part of the overall auditing program or in response to incidents, requests, specific concerns etc.  Each review conducted shall result in the development of an action plan for the correction of any issues that may be identified.

External operational compliance - legislative changes and implementation management

Once the legislative changes have been identified, the two teams involved will work together to draft the necessary operational changes, as they relate to our national policies, procedures and practices.

It will then go through an approval process and ensure all of the newly drafted clauses are aligned to both local and federal laws, as required.

Once approved by all stakeholders, the contract manager will then cooperate with the leading team to review and implement the changes to existing procedures and practices, necessitated by the law in consultation with relevant clients and employees.
