Under this new contract, tied in with the French law on the energy transition, every year 185,000 metric tons of waste will be recovered in the form of energy in the Couëron Waste Treatment and Recovery Center (CVTD). Consequently 30,000 MWh of electricity (the annual consumption of 1,900 homes) and 75,000 MWh of heat (the annual consumption of 7,100 homes) will be produced. The heat from waste recovery will supply steam to the Nantes district heating network, as well as to an industrial site. The new contract will begin on 1 March 2019, for a period of 15 years.

Eco-systèmes - an eco-organization approved by the authorities for the collection and recycling of electrical appliances - has collected and recycled 1.6 million refrigerators in 2016. Veolia handled 276,500 appliances at its site in Angers, which is the largest unit specializing in the treatment of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment) in France.

Mexico City has entrusted Veolia with the construction and 30-year operation of the first Waste to Energy facility in Latin America, jointly with leading global and Mexican companies. This plant will treat 1.6 million tonnes of household waste per year, twice that of the largest facility in France, and will produce 965 GWh of electricity per year to power the Mexico City Metro.
