**Today, 29th of September, the city of Tashkent entrusted Veolia with the operation, maintenance and management of its network of urban heating for a duration of 30 years. This first contract for Veolia in the country is part of its strategy of supporting communities towards sustainable growth and ecological transformation.**



 

 

 



Uzbekistan's largest city, Tashkent, has the largest [urban heating network](/en/solutions/district-heating-cooling-networks "District heating and cooling networks") in the country, to supply heating and hot water to nearly half of its population, representing **1.2 million inhabitants**. Of the **1926 km** of pipelines in the network, **73%** are underground. The leasing contract signed with Veolia, and the first of its kind in Uzbekistan, is based on a public-private partnership.

Veolia will be responsible for operating and maintaining the urban heating network and hot water installations, assessing the state of these facilities, identifying necessary investments, funding the operating assets programme, and project management.  
The first two years will be devoted to a first phase of modernisation of the heating system in two of the city’s districts. The results of this project will trigger an ambitious modernisation programme throughout the city.
