Veolia UK receives a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development

Veolia has won the UK’s most prestigious business accolade, the Queen’s Award for Enterprise, by setting the sustainability benchmark for the UK and developing its new business strategy which places the company at the centre of the circular economy.

The company’s new business strategy focuses on manufacturing green energy and calories, recycling over one million tonnes of waste annually and converting non-recyclable waste into energy sufficient to provide electricity and heat to over 300,000 homes.
Veolia’s radical approach means it is involved in all stages of the supply chain including production, which means the company is best placed to resolve the most complex environmental challenges facing customers. Veolia is the only company in the UK to provide a complete range of integrated collection, treatment and disposal services for all types of waste: dry, solid, liquid, hazardous and low-level nuclear.
Beyond satisfying statutory requirements for the Award, Veolia distinguished itself as a social sustainability leader; devoting annually 20,000 hours to charity work, donating £50 million to community projects, systematically engaging with schools and helping unemployed people, including ex-offenders, back to work.
The Awards are made annually by HM The Queen, and are only given for the highest levels of excellence demonstrated in each category.
