Abu Dhabi, UAE 28th May, 2014: Veolia, the global leader in optimized resources management, VeBes O&M and Abu Dhabi Polytechnic (AD Poly), today announced that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed at the Saint Regis Resort hotel, Saadiyat Island. The agreement will see the establishment of an education program, which will be dedicated to water and environment infrastructure maintenance.
The three organisations will work in partnership to initiate and support the program, which looks to diversify the economy by contributing to the education and development of UAE human resources and talent development through a tailor made and innovative apprenticeship solution. The joint venture aims to encourage the citizens and residents of the United Arab Emirates to contribute to the development of the local economy.
Commenting on the occasion Xavier Joseph, CEO, Gulf Countries, Veolia: “Through this partnership we wish to develop the next generation of UAE innovators dedicated to water and environment infrastructure maintenance. The alliance further cements our commitment to building the Middle East as world-class hub for waste management and recycling and recovery of resources.”

About VeBes O&M:
VeBes O&M is the Operating & Maintenance Company of the Independent Sewage Treatment Plant 2 (ISTP2) belonging to Al Watha Veolia Besix Waste Water PJSC. ISTP2 project which is a BOOT project consisting of the design, construction, financing and operation of two wastewater treatment plants in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
The Wathba 2 Plant treats a significant part of the domestic wastewater coming from the city of Abu Dhabi. This Plant has a treatment capacity of 300,000 m3 per day and is designed for a Population Equivalent of 1,000,000 units. The Allahamah Plant treats a significant part of wastewater coming from the city of Al Ain, located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. This Plant has a treatment capacity of 130,000 m3 per day and is designed for a Population Equivalent of 650,000 units. The owner of these two plants is Al Wathba Veolia Besix Waste Water PJSC, a Special Purpose Company which was incorporated in 2008 for this specific project.
