Tangalooma EcoMarines Foundation Wins 2015 Veolia Healthy Waterways Award

Tangalooma EcoMarines Foundation was awarded the 2015 Sustainable Education Award sponsored by Veolia at the annual Healthy Waterways Awards, held in Brisbane on 19 June. Now in its fifteenth year, the awards recognise outstanding contributions to waterway health in south east Queensland.

As a Silver sponsor of the Sustainable Education Award, Veolia looks to recognise and celebrate the achievements made by students, teachers and organisations to improve the health of south east Queensland's waterways and educate the community – a vital concern for Veolia’s activities in south east Queensland.

Veolia’s Queensland Environment Manager, Carlos Vargas presented the Veolia Sustainable Education Award to a representative for the Tangalooma EcoMarines Foundation. Tangalooma EcoMarines Primary School Program helps young people become true leaders in protecting Moreton Bay. In 2014, the Foundation worked with students to undertake clean-up activities, reduce plastic waste and promote the use of reusable water bottles.

Ms Julie McLellan, Chief Executive Officer of Healthy Waterways, said she appreciated Veolia’s support, now in its eighth year.

“Without Veolia’s support, we would not be able to recognise those who dedicate their time selflessly for the benefit of our waterways, and inspire others to make a genuine and lasting contribution to waterway health.”

Ben Bowen, Queensland Regional Water Manager for Veolia Australia and New Zealand, said Veolia was honoured to once again be involved.

“Water is our most vital resource. Veolia, as a provider of sustainable solutions for water and wastewater services, shares an immediate link with the Healthy Waterways Awards. In our eighth year as a sponsor, we are proud to support Sustainable Education Award category, recognising groups and individuals who are working hard to ensure a sustainable future.”

The Awards aim to raise the profile of current waterway health issues, recognise those making a difference and inspire others to take action.
