Where many would see waste, we see resources! When I was working at Veolia in France, before moving to Australia, our team delivered an amazing project for a water park in Arras. We implemented the Veolia-patented ENERGIDO technology to recover calories from the wastewater network and transfer them to the nearby Aquarena water park. This energy maintains the temperature of the water, heats the air at the waterpark and covers 75% of the energy needs of the waterpark. My family and I used to go a lot to this waterpark, specifically in winter, enjoying the warm water heated thanks to our own wastewater!

Working as an Engineer in the Environmental Sector for over 20 years now and almost 19 years in Veolia is and always has been something that goes beyond the definition of a "job". It’s a passion. At Veolia, I’ve contributed in tackling climate change by reducing recovering and transforming waste into resources. With my teams, I have delivered infrastructure for solid waste management and resource recovery including engineered landfills with gas collection and flaring systems, mechanical and biological treatment, dry waste recycling opportunities and energy from waste solutions. It's rewarding knowing what I do contributes towards creating sustainable and compliant environmental outcomes for current and future generations is what drives me to work on solutions and projects at Veolia.

What if… we turned wastewater into heat, sunlight into fresh air and waste into energy? What if all this was already possible?

What if… our food could generate energy?
In Metropolitan Sydney, Veolia produces 1800mW of renewable energy by recovering approximately 91% of food waste through its Earthpower facility where we are able to convert food and garden organic waste into 1500 tonnes of soil improvement products annually.
What if… tyres could be used to create tennis courts?
Veolia is supporting a national client to divert 77,000 tyres annually from landfill by recycling them. Veolia through Tyre Stewardship Australia has identified a product called Flexiroc which uses recycled tyre rubber to repurpose and turn it into scrubbed rubber to then be used in applications such as footpaths and tennis courts - to date 190m3 of Flexiroc product has been used as a sustainable alternative to traditional aggregates.
What if… we cooled ourselves down using light?
On the Sippy Downs university campus in Australia, Veolia installed photovoltaic panels that generate energy to cool water stored in a tank, which is then injected into the cooling circuits to power the air conditioning systems in the university buildings.
What if… the marine world kept our cities cool?
Cooling paving stones made from scallop shells were laid in a school playground in Bordeaux, France. Rainwater, which is recovered, stored and treated, using a system developed by Veolia, runs through these paving stones to keep them cool.
