In December 2015, Veolia worked with France’s special police service RAID (Search, Assistance, Intervention, Deterrence) to ensure enhanced security for the water distribution network in Le Bourget, where the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP21) was held.
Veolia put in place arrangements to protect the essential services of drinking water production and supply. Most of the work involved securing sites with stringent access controls, permanently monitoring water quality and protecting IT systems. In France, Veolia regularly takes part in public security exercises staged by local prefects to test how the company and local authorities react in the event of terrorist attack. A simulated attack on the Paris water distribution network was held in 2015 prior to COP21, underlining the effectiveness of Veolia’s solutions.
