In early 2014, Veolia Australia launched an action plan to strengthen relations and respect between the general community and Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders. The process of strengthening ties with these communities reflects Veolia’s goal of improving the working environment.
The program draws on the cultural diversity of the people who make it up to reinforce respect and understanding of others. It also helps to create lasting ties between different people. Since 2015, 675 employees have taken part in an obligatory awareness-raising initiative, face to face or online, which presents the culture and history of these communities.
In addition, the program plans to recruit over 100 Aboriginal employees over the next five years. It goes hand in hand with an educational program, training opportunities and study grants to help students from these communities complete their university studies.
