From the fryer to the fuel tank, when used restaurant oil becomes fuel

Through its subsidiaries Ecogras and SARP Industries, Veolia collects, treats and recycles used cooking oil. On its site in Limay, Ile-de-France, the Group transforms 100% of the oil it receives into biofuel.

Every year, 10,000 tons of used cooking oil is collected by the Group from catering professionals, local authorities, and food manufacturers - nearly 27,000 customers spread throughout France. The used oil is filtered and pretreated, before it is transported to Veolia’s biodiesel plant in Limay to be transformed into biofuel.
1,200 liters of biofuel can be produced by recycling one metric ton of used oil. The biodiesel plant in Limay currently produces 20,000 metric tons every year.

Reducing fuel consumption by recycling used cooking oil

Recycling used cooking oils reduces the consumption of fossil fuels in the transport sector, and limits greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. One liter of oil recycled into biofuel avoids the emission of 3 kg of CO2, a reduction of 92% compared to diesel fuel use.
This solution contributes to the 2020 target set by the European Commission of achieving 10% renewable energy consumption in the transport sector.
