The Communauté Urbaine du Grand Reims renews its trust in Veolia for the operation of its energy recovery plant

Veolia wins the operating contract for Reims' energy recovery plant, which processes 60,000 tonnes of final waste produced each year by the 300,000 inhabitants of the Reims urban area. The Group will help optimize the site’s energy performance and environmental excellence.

Veolia will carry out modernization work that will improve the site’s energy performance. In addition to producing thermal energy that feeds the Croix-Rouge district heating, the unit will now produce 12,000 MWh of electricity - the equivalent consumption of more than 5,000 inhabitants.

Environmental excellence serving local people

Four times certified - ISO 9001 (Quality), ISO 14001 (Environment), OHSAS 18001 (Safety), and ISO 50001 (Energy Efficiency) - the Reims energy recovery plant will benefit from an efficient flue gas treatment system, which will guarantee dioxin and dust emissions 40% lower than European thresholds.

The site will also deploy an educational pathway to boost residents’ awareness of the importance of sorting, recycling and waste recovery.

A planted area will be created in association with the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne aimed at developing local fauna and flora. As part of a partnership with the French ornithological society LPO, a Peregrine falcon nesting box will be installed on the factory chimney.
