In Obuasi, Ghana, Sustainable Valorization of Water from Gold Mining

In the face of severe water constraints and strict environmental regulations, Veolia supports AngloGold Ashanti in Obuasi to ensure sustainable management of mining water. The goal: to maintain operational continuity while complying with environmental standards and creating resources for local communities.
Gold Mining in Obuasi, Ghana

An Integrated Response to Mining Sector Challenges

Gold ore processing generates significant volumes of wastewater. Veolia has implemented six facilities to manage effluents from underground galleries, rainfall, and tailings ponds. Two units produce drinking water, while the other four ensure treatment that meets national standards.

Preserving Resources and Adding Value to Discharges

By optimizing salt separation and conducting tests to valorize saline by-products, Veolia supports a local circular economy loop while enabling the mine to retain its operating license.
