For 170 years, Veolia has consistently pioneered proprietary solutions, anticipating and securing against critical environmental needs long before they became global challenges. Today, ecological transformation is not just about compliance; it's a strategic imperative to safeguard the vital resources essential for prosperity, health and well-being.

We are the innovation powerhouse for critical needs, providing proprietary solutions that turn complex environmental challenges into measurable operational success. Whether you are a municipality securing water for a large population or an industry leader scaling next-generation technologies, Veolia is your trusted partner for absolute environmental security.

Our innovations are focused on three main challenges to address:

  • Securing critical resources: water as a priority
  • Circular economy: finding resources locally in waste to reduce dependence on distant supply chains
  • Pollution treatment: to protect citizens' health and secure industries' operating licenses

Veolia's winning formula for innovation

As the industry evolves, so does our mission. The exponential growth of data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants is stretching local grids and water supplies to their limits. To help these digital industries maintain their community license to operate, Veolia has anticipated the need and developed tailored, integrated solutions.

Secure the future of critical resources for industries

Innovation for
a circular, low-carbon industry

Three visuals featuring plastic recycling, battery-grade lithium hydroxide production for decarbonization, and CO2 capture

Securing material supply: plastic recycling

With global plastic production growing at 4% annually, Veolia operates 26 plants across Europe, Asia and Latin America to deliver circular, traceable and food-grade recycled plastics.

Securing strategic resources: battery recycling & critical mineral extraction

As demand for critical minerals surges, we offer end-to-end solutions:

  • Licensed battery collection networks and black mass extraction across the EU and U.S.
  • Proprietary hydrometallurgy technologies extracting nickel, cobalt, lithium and copper — operational in France
  • Strategic metal separation from municipal waste — saving 0.3t CO2e per ton of waste treated in Belgium
  • Patented molecular separation and membrane solutions delivering battery-grade lithium hydroxide, with units already operational in Japan and Australia

Securing local energy sources: decarbonized energy

  • Wastewater heat recovery: saving 70% on fossil energy for building heating and cooling across Europe
  • Biogas purification: injecting renewable gas directly into the grid, including 68 GWh/year at the southeast wastewater treatment plant in San Francisco, feeding into the Pacific Gas & Electric network

Innovate to recycle CO2: carbon capture and usage

Leveraging our expertise in Water Technologies and waste incineration, we are bringing two new carbon capture solutions to market:

  • Amine-based carbon capture: proprietary technology removes CO2 from flue gas and reclaims amine solvents through electrodialysis, enabling direct local use as a substitute for fossil CO2. Already securing 3,000t/year of CO2 production and sales, with an industrial-scale demonstrator operational at the Le Mans Métropole energy-from-waste plant, France
  • Membrane CO2 separation: cutting-edge membrane technology capturing and separating CO2 at a hazardous waste high-temperature incineration plant in the U.S.

The future of
chip manufacturing

From ultrapure water production to chemical recycling and waste treatment, we manage the full resource cycle to help you reduce dependency, improve circularity and meet the highest environmental standards.

With operations across the U.S., Taiwan, the UK and beyond, we have the global footprint and local expertise to support your fabs wherever they are. And with our Clean Earth acquisition, we now cover all 50 U.S. states.

Our first dedicated chip manufacturing innovation center opens in Singapore in 2027. More than a facility, it is a collaborative hub where our engineers, scientists and clients come together to co-develop the solutions that will define the future of the industry.

While some innovate for needs you didn’t even know you had, Veolia innovate to secure what communities cannot live without: water, energy, critical minerals. The resources essential for prosperity, health, and well-being.

Cities are at the heart of everything we do. From ensuring safe drinking water and managing waste to delivering energy and protecting public health, essential services are the backbone of modern urban life. As cities grow and face increasing environmental pressures, keeping these services running reliably, efficiently and affordably has never been more important.

"Talk To My Plant" revolutionizes resource management

This conversational agent based on generative AI transforms the monitoring of plants (water, waste, energy) into an intuitive dialogue, providing real-time recommendations to ensure optimal performance and rapid problem resolution.

Objective: 30% of our maintenance technicians using the conversational agent by 2027, and all our major operations by 2030.

AI-Powered leak detection

Hubgrade™, a network analysis and AI-based leak identification solution, has increased water network performance by 2.5% per year, as demonstrated in Morocco.

Membrane maintenance optimization

Using an AI and machine learning system to analyze data in real time, Veolia has been able to maximize productivity (10–30%) and reduce energy consumption (2–10%), as at the Sur desalination plant in Sharqiyah, Oman.

End-to-end PFAs offer

Pollution accounts for 9 million deaths per year globally, making the elimination of PFAS "forever chemicals" a growing priority worldwide. Veolia is leading the charge across Europe, the U.S. and Australia:

  • Full cycle solution: from detection and water treatment to soil remediation and destruction, with a 99.9999% destruction rate
  • Growing global reach: expanding capabilities through acquisitions in Australia and the U.S.

AI-driven substations

The use of AI improves the energy efficiency of district heating networks. As in Harbin, China, which reduced its CO₂ emissions by 60 kt/year.
